Choosing an enquiry journey
Should your tutor website use an enquiry form or online booking?
Choose between an enquiry, call request and direct lesson booking based on how your tuition business actually accepts new pupils.

Use the action that matches your process
An enquiry route is often appropriate when you need to discuss suitability before accepting a pupil. Direct booking fits situations where the service, availability and booking conditions are sufficiently defined. Neither is automatically better.
Think about the first decision you need to make. If subject, level, learning needs or tutor matching affect suitability, collecting a focused enquiry can be more helpful than letting a visitor reserve any open time.
Distinguish three different actions
An enquiry asks for a conversation. A call request expresses a preferred time or asks for contact. A confirmed booking reserves a real available appointment under stated conditions. Your button and confirmation should describe the actual outcome.
For example, “Ask about Year 11 maths tuition” can lead to a short enquiry form. “Request an introductory call” should not imply the call is scheduled unless an appointment has been confirmed.
Check the operational requirements of booking
Before adding booking software, agree who controls availability, how blocked dates and recurring commitments are handled, and how rescheduling and cancellation work. Check time zones if you teach online across countries.
If payments are involved, scope them separately and test the complete payment and confirmation journey. Do not assume an attractive calendar interface prevents double bookings or handles every exception your business needs.
Keep the first step proportionate
Start with the simplest journey that works for your intake process. A small tutor business may only need a clear email route and consistent reply process. A larger team may benefit from structured routing and a shared enquiry system.
Ask a supplier to demonstrate the actual visitor journey before committing to an integration. At AbneosEd, booking requirements and subscriptions are agreed separately; they are not automatically included with a website.
Choose the right first action
| Route | Visitor outcome | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiry | A message requesting discussion. | Suitability or tutor matching needs checking. |
| Call request | A request, not a confirmed time. | You agree appointments by reply. |
| Confirmed booking | An available slot is actually reserved. | Availability, conditions and confirmations are maintained and tested. |
Your next decision
Write down the specific change you need, the parts of your current process worth keeping and the questions a supplier must answer. This gives you a useful basis for a proposal.
