Improving an existing website
Does your tutor website need a redesign or a smaller fix?
Use a practical parent journey review to decide whether your tuition website needs targeted improvements or a complete redesign.

Try the parent journey first
A complete redesign is not automatically the best starting point. Open your website on a phone and imagine you are a parent visiting for the first time. Can you identify what is taught, who it is for, how lessons work and how to enquire?
If those answers exist but are buried, changes to headings, navigation and calls to action may address the problem. If the structure cannot accommodate your current offer, a broader rebuild may be appropriate.
Look for a messaging problem
A vague headline such as “Unlock potential” tells parents little about your teaching. Replace it with a clear description of the subject, level and support you provide. Keep genuine evidence close to the claims it supports.
Check whether older pages still describe services you no longer offer. A redesign with the same unclear content leaves the main decision problem unresolved. Start by agreeing the actual offer and the questions a parent needs answered.
Identify practical failures
Test every contact route yourself without sending real pupil data. Check the form labels and required fields, the destination inbox, error messages and what visitors see after submission. If you link to booking, verify the handover works.
A broken form, unreadable mobile layout or inaccessible navigation needs attention before cosmetic changes. Record the device, URL and action that failed so the fix can be checked against the original issue.
Protect useful pages during a rebuild
If you have existing search traffic or links, make an inventory of the URLs before changing them. Review available Search Console and analytics evidence, rather than assuming all old pages should disappear.
Ask a supplier for a keep, improve, consolidate or remove decision for each important page. Request tested redirects where addresses change. The right project preserves useful content and repairs specific problems with a clear before-and-after acceptance check.
A practical decision checklist
| What you find | Useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Accurate offer, buried next step | Improve headings, navigation and the enquiry action. |
| Broken form or mobile menu | Fix and retest that journey before visual work. |
| Outdated structure that cannot explain current tuition | Scope a rebuild while preserving valuable URLs. |
| Unsure where the problem lies | Start with a focused review and evidence from real parent enquiries. |
Your next decision
Write down the specific change you need, the parts of your current process worth keeping and the questions a supplier must answer. This gives you a useful basis for a proposal.
